This wooden footbridge crosses the River Ythan near the village of Ythanbank in Aberdeenshire. Why was it built?
I cannot find any official record of why or when this bridge was built, but the bridge is shown on an Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1867-68.
It is believed that a local farmer arranged for the bridge to be built to provide a safe route for children from the east side of the river to attend school on the opposite side.
