Agony of the "Landes de Gascogne" forest in the southwest of France during summer 2022. Dried up by an historic heat wave and devoured by the flames of gigantic fires, the Landes forest is dying. Next to Mano where this panorama was taken, the Landiras fire burned 20000 ha of forest, and that of La Teste de Buch, further West, 7000ha of maritime pines. With climate change, repeated storms, heat waves and the proliferation of invasive or predatory species are having a heavy impact on the largest French "artificial" forest (created by man since 1857), which covers 974,000 ha.
