The Loue spring is the largest karstic spring in the Jura mountains.

The Loue in numbers:

In past times there where several flour mills, saw mills, oil mills, forges and paper factories powered by the Loue spring.

In 1901 the Pernod factory in Pontarlier burnt, and 1 million liters absinth got in the Doubs river. Two days later the Loue spring smelled of absinth, showing that part of the Doubs drains away powering the Loue spring.
