This is the only remaining hangar of the former airport Fliegerhorst in Venlo. The airfield was used in the Second World War from March 1941 until July 1943. The panorama shows the remains of a hangar where concrete is used as building material. What is now forest was once a huge airport. In front of the hangar a taxiway went right to the runway.

I chose this place because its history is very closely linked to the concept of mortality.

The complex covered 1075 hectares and had two runways of 1450 meters and one of 1200 meters. On 3 September 1944 the airbase was completely destroyed in an action of hundreds of British aircraft. After World War II the airport was cleared except for the air traffic control tower and one hangar. Most of the Airport is now fully accessible and ruin remains recall the past.
