By Water, Road or Foot

I shot in this area for the “Water” WWP event in 2005. That was my first time there, and I have returned several times, including shooting some wedding party photos for a friend.

On the evening I was there, there was a wide variety of birds, ducks, geese, seagulls and herons.

This is a more literal take on the theme and I liked the juxtaposition of the footbridges, river and overpass in the background. It’s a literal crossroads, for foot traffic, water traffic and road traffic.

Each shot is a 4-second exposure. I put off shooting the scene as long as possible—the week was overcast and raining most days. I really wanted clear skies and was hoping for more color in the sunset.

“Hidden away in the South Suburbs of Chicago one can find a public park with the strange name of "the Harry 'Bus' Yourell Off-Stream Aeration Pool." While the name conjures up visions of stagnant waters rife with mosquitoes and algae, it is in fact one of the most picturesque and popular public areas on the south side.

A series of off-stream waterfalls have been constructed along the Chicagoland waterways to improve the water quality. This is one of those facilities. The "Harry 'Bus' Yourell Off-Stream Aeration Pool's" park-like setting attracts wedding parties for photo shoots, bike riders, joggers, and anyone who likes to just relax by the water's edge.”
