The original idea that came into my mind was to show musicians at the "Trachten und Schützenumzug." This traditional costume and marksman’s procession takes place on every first Sunday of the Oktoberfest in Munich. It was held for the first time in 1835. Since 1950 it is organized regularly. Over 9,000 participants walk through the city, slowly approaching the Oktoberfest. Along their way thousands of spectators watch musicians, costume and dance groups, riflemen and other performers. The participants are mostly from Bavaria, but also from other European countries.

When searching for an interesting spot for my panorama I found these three little girls, that were not interested in the pageant at all. Instead they danced to the music a band was playing. They seemed to like the tunes and started their own performance almost unnoticed by the many spectators around.

Making Of

The shooting was done with a 3.15 meter (app. 10.33 ft) pole to reach a more elevated viewpoint above the ground. The lens was mounted with a custom-made bracket which allows me to mount the lens to turn around the no-parallax point of the lens. I took three exposures at every direction and used exposure fusion to combine the different shots.
