You can see the many climbers performing aerobatic maneuvers on the climbing walls that have been installed around this former church.
This climbing centre is located inside an abandoned church. St. James church was built in 1866 and was in use up until 1992 when it was left redundant and deconsecrated. St. James Church stood empty for 15 years, suffering from vandalism over the years. Then a great idea was hatched to save the church from demolition by turning it into a climbing centre. This meant that the community could once again benefit from the building.
Derby Climbing Centre opened to the public on May 5th, 2008, and is an extremely popular place.
At Alter Rock it does not matter if you are a beginner, intermediate or an old hand, there is something for everyone. Their aim is to help you have fun and to push you to your limits!
