Sept 22nd, 2008 • 1:45pm Local • 1815 UTC
The Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows is a permanent display of more than 150 stained glass windows housed in a long series of galleries along the lower level terraces of Festival Hall on Chicago's Navy Pier. Opened in February 2000, it is the first museum in the United States dedicated solely to stained glass windows. On display are windows created in a wide varieties of artistic styles, designed by prominent local, national and European artists and studios, and represent works ranging from the Victorian to the Modern eras. Many of these windows originally graced homes, businesses and places of worship in the Chicago area.
The windows in the gallery shown above characterize typical Victorian and Art Nouveau designs and techniques.
The Smith Museum is open daily and admission is free. More information about both the museum and Navy Pier can be found at these links: Smith Museum Brochure • Other Navy Pier Attractions
