I had a wonderfull time preparing this!
The Magnolia tree was really past its best, the leaves were already out. Nonetheless it was still magnificent, a true harbinger of Spring!
The figure you see twice and from the longer shadow is that of Mr Nola Senior. I had quite a chat with him. A Colourfull Character indeed!
He Planted the Magnificent Magnolia in 1935. His house used to be where the car park is now. He hasn't shifted far, just to the edge of the car park that serves the family Orchard Shop.
He was one of the original, Dalmation, Yugoslav settlers in the Oratia Valley, renowned for its (fast disappearing) orchards. His son runs the Orchard and market garden now but how long it will last is anyone's guess. They are literaly surrounded by suburbia now, just under a kilometer from the next orchard and the Waitakere Ranges.
