Wine comes in two basic colors: red and white.

These two simple terms cover a wide range of hues, of course, and don't allow for blends.

Nevertheless, many people prefer one color over another, and some say that certain foods go better with one or the other.

The color of a wine derives from its processing methods: whether or not the skins were left on the grapes. The variety of grape and age also affect the basic color, so a "white" can be yellow, brown, or green, and a "red" can be pink, orange, or purple.
