Sustenance: Gulf of Mexico

The warm Gulf of Mexico waters provide sustenance for Tropical Depressions, energizing them into hurricanes.

Drag around with your mouse. See the sea weed? That's Sargassum, (Gulf Weed) which can grow up to 39', roughly 12m in length. The Sargassum provides sustenance to the beach in that it helps prevent erosion of the sea sand.
The Sargassum is also used by the city to sustain the sand dunes. Each spring, the beaches of Corpus Christi are inundated with Sargassum, washed in from the Gulf's coral reefs. The City moves the Sargassum from the beaches onto the dunes. The dunes of this barrier island help protect the mainland from the elements.

Conspicuous by their absence, are the many visitors that visit this area during Summer. These visitors provide much needed sustenance to the area in the form of dollars spent.
