At the tip of Port Jersey Peninsula, alongside some of New Jersey's biggest container shipping terminals, there is a waterfront observation area along Upper New York Bay with a distant view of the Statue of Liberty against the lower Manhattan skyline.
A part of this man-made peninsula is set aside by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as a wetland and wildlife preservation area. This little bit of urban coastline is a tidal habitat for several species of birds along with land and marine life. Locals come here for fishing. Bird watchers come with binoculars. Photographers come here with telephoto lenses. I came fishing with a fisheye lens.
