What sustains me? Times of plenty like this day - the start of fall, when everything is ripe and falling off the tree.
These ladies are holding a magnificently large mushroom - the mushroom season this year in Czech Republic has been extremely plentiful and this mushroom is a fine specimen indeed. (When you are reading this now, this mushroom has either been chopped up and fried with some eggs and garlic, or sliced up and dried to be added to soups in the coming months of not-so-plenty.)
We are at a pub called "Na konce sveta" which means "the end of the world" in czech. It's a bit of a joke, as this is the sole pub in Drahnovice, a village of 46 people - a place you would presume is hundreds of miles from civilization although is in fact just 45 minutes' drive from Prague. Still, that fact hardly matters when you're sitting here. The town hall / mayor's office is in an adjoining room. Often the mayor comes and has a drink (could it be any other way).
This was a rather perfect day of plenty - far beyond sustenance. The things that sustain us don't come at a steady rate - sometimes they come all at once. Today was one of those days.
