Thembisa Township, is just outside of Johannesburg, some people might reasonably say it is part of Johannesburg even. However what set it apart is the lack of running water.
On the day of this panorama I got the driver to take me outside of the tourists routes, he took me to Thembisa where his sister lives, the houses are really not quite what one would define as a house in America, but rather shacks and and lean-to structures out of clay, corrugated steel, and concrete bricks.
In a world with a global water crisis this was what I did see, about 15 minutes after leaving my hotel with the fountains in front of the driveway, a group of people waiting to fill 5 gallon (about 20 liters) containers with water.
This panorama is not anything more than a picture of something real, at this moment much more desperate problems are developing in many other areas around the world.
Drinkable water need to be a basic human right for every citizen of every nation.
