Our Home Elevator :-)

Living on the third floor without an elevator may be exhausting, but we must admit it's a good thing. The ascending and descending many times a day is good for the heart, lungs, and muscles in general.
Knowing that anything we plan to buy or take home will be carried three floors up is a strong deterrent to the purchase of useless stuff (except for our first microwave oven, received today with the supermarket coupons...).
On the other hand, some of our relatives and friends may find hard to visit us (sometimes this isn't so negative...).
In general the balance is positive. Living without an elevator means no maintenance stops, no embarrassing silences between unknowns, no disturbing noise at night. It also means more relationships with the neighbors and less building maintenance expenses.
In any case, there's no room for an elevator in our block, neither internal nor external, so we'll keep doing transportation up and downstairs for a while more.

Vivere al terzo piano senza ascensore può essere faticoso, ma dobbiamo ammettere che è una cosa positiva. Salire e scendere tante volte al giorno fa bene al cuore, ai polmoni, e ai muscoli in generale.
Sapere che qualsiasi cosa abbiamo intenzione di comprare o portare a casa dovrà essere trasportata a piedi per tre piani, è un forte deterrente all'acquisto di ciarpame inutile (fatta eccezione per il nostro primo forno a microonde, ricevuto oggi con i punti del supermercato...)
D'altro canto, alcuni fra i nostri parenti e amici possono trovare faticoso venirci a trovare (e talvolta questo ha i suoi vantaggi...)
Ma in generale il bilancio è positivo: vivere senza ascensore significa nessun fermo per manutenzione, nessun silenzio imbarazzante fra sconosciuti, nessun rumore molesto durante la notte; significa anche rapporti più amichevoli con i vicini, e spese condominiali più contenute.
In ogni caso, nella nostra scala non c'è proprio spazio per un ascensore, interno od esterno, quindi continueremo a effettuare trasporti su e giù per le scale ancora per un bel pezzo.
