Sports Viewer Potential Difference
The Australian Rules Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is a high energy event. Nearly 100,000 people attend the game and many millions watch it live on TV. This years Grand final was between the Sydney Swans and the West Coast Eagles. The Swans won. It was a very tight game.
Two teams of 18 players battle it out on the ground for 120 minutes - it is a very fast, tough, high flying and skilled game. By the final siren these athletes are totally exhausted. The 100,000 people at the MCG scream, chant and cheer for their team. The amount of energy expended in this one sporting event is massive.
By comparision the millions of viewers at home watching the game on TV are consuming a negligible amount of energy - sitting in a comfortable lounge chair, eating junk food and drinking a few beers.
This panorama is an illustration of the two vastly different energy states and raises the questions - Can we harvest this energy state difference? and how many SVU's (Sports Viewer Units) does it take to power the average household? :-)
