Lake Houston after Hurricane Rita

This Panorama was taken.
41 hours after our electricity when off.
37 hours after Rita's land fall in Louisiana some 95 miles to our east southeast.
21 hours after our electricity came back on.

There was a lot of energy used and wasted before and after Rita.

Things I learned.
The National Hurricane Center isn’t perfect.
Keep your gas tank full.
If you are evacuating leave before the official evacuation.
If you are staying have most of your supplies bought as soon as a hurricane might be coming. Grocery stores empty fast.
Frozen gallon jugs of water will keep your refrigerator cold and you can drink it after it melts.
There is a lot of food to eat from your freezer as it thaws.
Buy more food than you think you need, the grocery store is empty for a week after.

In Kingwood (northeast Houston) winds gusted to 72mph.
We had tropical storm force winds for about 10hrs. We had 2 inches of rain.
The water in the lake was lowered more than 2 feet for the predicted 20+ inches of rain from Rita.

We are lucky that's all that happened here.
