Nothing is more powerful than the energy of life and thought. No loss like the absence of it. I can’t think of anything man spends more time and effort on than life.

Sustaining it, strengthening it, extending it. Simply enjoying it. But in the end, all this is for nothing. We will have a final resting place. Man seems intent on recreating, to some extent, the majestic resting places of ancient times.

Two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were final resting places. Pharaoh Khufu was put to rest in the Great Pryamid of Giza. King Maussollos, the Persian Satrap of Caria, had perhaps the most magnificent resting place ever constructed. So great that even today we call final resting places Mausoleums. The Taj Mahal, built for an Emperor’s deceased love, Mumtaz Mahal, still remains as it was built in the 1600’s.

The observation of the absence of life/energy we call Death crosses all boundaries of faith and religion. From simple burial mounds and graves to the newer, more public structures, no place on earth is without these monuments to Entropy.

A typical early Fall week of constant rain. This was the only extended window without showers or storms, so the overall atmosphere was still a little gloomy. It had stopped raining about an hour before this shoot, and resumed raining about half an hour later.
