Bridges: once again I have been able to use my home town as theme. Elche is divided into two by the Vinalopo river. Nowadays it is more a little canal than a river, but once, it was supposed to be a broad and deep river that created the rift that divides the town. There is actually a myth that says that Hamilcar Barca (Hannibal's father) drowned at the Vinalopo river when crossing the Spanish peninsula towards Rome during the first Punic War (264-241 BC) ... don't take this for granted as I haven't done much research about it. The two sides of the town are then connected together by 7 main bridges (see my WWP-210604 for a panoramic view of the rift and some of the bridges). The bridge shown is called the Altamira Bridge and takes his name from the Altamira Palace (XVI century) just next to it. The Altamira Bridge is just besides the Municipal Park and its palm tree forest. Camera setup, stitching and enhancing by Antonio V. Garcia-Serrano (just below the bridge), picture clicking by Sonia Zamora-Amorós.
