The bridge is currently undergoing a 7-year stripping and repainting project, which is sorely needed as can be seen on the handrail. The south-side footpath affords an unobstructed spectacular view of the Philadelphia skyline, but was closed because of the renovation project.
The day after I took this panorama, I returned to the bridge footpath in the early evening to take a panorama of the bridge in the setting sun. A Delaware River Port Authority Police officer drove up to me in a jeep and told me that I was not allowed to take photographs on the bridge. I obediently broke down my tripod and equipment and left, despite not having captured the panorama I wanted.
