Nimons Bridge was part of the Ballarat to Skipton Railway line and is one of the largest timber trestle bridges in Victoria. The line was built to provide an important link to the gold mining areas of Smythesdale, Scarsdale and Linton and to service the extensive pastoral land to the west. The first part of the line from Ballarat to Scarsdale was opened in 1883, going on to Linton in 1890 and completed to Skipton in 1916. Nimons bridge provides the crossing of the Woady Yalloak River between Scarsdale and Linton. The line closed in 1985. It is now a walking and cycling "Rail Trail" of 53kms. The bridge was finally restored and opened earlier this year as the final link in the trail.
