The Forno di Lemie bridge was built in 1477 by the owners of local copper and iron mines in the Viù valley, a small valley in north-western Italy.
The shrine in the middle, built to give more weight to the bridge in order to increase its stability, was originally decorated with religious frescoes.
The bridge is very narrow, paved with round stones and clearly designed only for people and animals. This is a steep mountain valley, so at the time there were no roads for carts.
