The bridge, designed by Winter, a club member for 32 years until his death in 1974, is a handsome structure made of thick wooden planks with steel supports that are set into large concrete feet on the ground. It is interesting to note that the long rubber mat which covers the walkway was at one time a conveyor belt from an old coal mine.
Bud Winter's inspiration has been used and appreciated and admired by thousands of golfers over the years including the professionals of the LPGA Tour. The Wykagyl CC golf course is a beautiful layout - it has been a tour stop for many years as well as host to many local prestigious professional and amateur events in the New York Area.
Thank you to my friends Cheryl Anderson and Ben Hoffhine of Wykagyl for their help in this project.
