This is the Irish Bend Covered Bridge in Corvallis, Oregon. It's no longer in its original location and is no longer used for cars, but it’s still a good example of covered bridges in general.
As such, it illustrates the principles behind their construction. Bridges were built with roofs (covers) in order to protect the structural components from the elements, thus making them last longer. The unique character of covered bridges is an example of resilient design.
