The American Windmill Museum in Lubbock, Texas is a dynamic “must see” museum for the American Style water pumping windmill. Inside the main galleries are over 200 rare and restored windmills and wind turbines. The 28-acre Linebery Windmill Park has a variety of working windmills erected on the grounds, and more are added each year.
Inside the Wind Energy Experience, you can see the interesting relationship between railroads and windmills with a large model train layout of the South Plains. Its 3,000 foot mainline track and G-scale trains let every age group enjoy the thrill of watching and listening to these large model trains.
One of the largest collections of grinding mill stones is displayed in the Garrison Millstone room, adjacent to the Alta Reeds collection of miniature houses. The “Legacy of the Wind” windmill mural in the events center covers 6,000 square feet of wall space and illustrates the use of windmills in America from 1621 to the current day.
