The Pen-Bron marine center is a former health establishment located at the end of the peninsula. The climate is well known to be beneficial for health, and in 1887 the sisters of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul created a sanatorium there. It will experience various changes over the years, the latest dating back to 1981. The hospital was then converted into a rehabilitation and functional rehabilitation center.
But in 2017 the establishment closed its doors. Supposedly too expensive to renovate. No doubt it will one day become a hotel complex or another reception facility for wealthy tourists. Zooming in behind the fir trees, you can see the chapel. And on the left a rehabilitation building with sea view.
On the opposite bank at Le Croisic at the start of the pier, the sanatorium founded by the Saint-Jean-de-Dieu brothers in 1893 and which would also later become a functional rehabilitation center suffered the same fate. In 1999, it was transformed into a tourist residence.
It is heartbreaking to see that places that for more than a century have welcomed doctors and nursing staff showing such humanity are being sacrificed on the altar of economic concerns. Besides the climate, the beauty of the peninsula contributed to healing. But nowadays, don't we prefer that such places bring in money and welcome tourists rather than sick people ?
