This recently refurbished pedestrian footbridge, built by Stothert & Pitt Ltd, crosses over the disused Woodside and South Croydon Joint Railway line at the site of the former Spencer Road Halt railway station in South Croydon.

The halt, which consisted of two 100-foot platforms made from old sleepers, opened to passengers in 1906 but closed in 1915 due to declining passenger numbers.

The remains of Spencer Road Halt were cleared away in 1935 when the line was electrified using the third rail system. The footbridge is currently maintained by Network Rail as it forms part of a public footpath between Spencer Road and Birdhurst Rise.
