The ruins of Vallay House

The island of Valay, is accessible only at low tide, some 2Km north across the sands from the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides.

The only permanent residents are the cattle that also have to make the 2Km journey on foot. At the turn of the 20^th century the then owner, author and archaeologist, Erskine Beveridge built an Edwardian crow-stepped Mansion, exquisitely appointed with all modern comforts, including water piped from North Uist.

The building was wholly unsuitable for such a windswept location, this and the drowning of Erskine’s son whilst crossing the stand in 1944 led to the building’s abandonment, and deterioration to the shell we see below us today.

4 GoPro HERO3+ cameras, with a wooden camera cradle/rig to hold the cameras in exactly the correct position is triggered by 4 custom designed camera synchronizers.

Suspended below a Dan Leigh Cruiser kite with 8ft/2.5m span.
This technique produces two hemispheres, and a different workflow in PTGui from the classic ground pano technique. This results in extra effort BUT impossible angles!
