The building of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of Saint Petersburg University in Peterhof was built in 1979. It is embellished with mural mosaic depicting great mathematicians, mechanics and astronomers - (from left to right) Euclid of Alexandria, Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky, Aleksandr Mikhailovich Lyapunov, Archimedes of Syracuse, Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss, Galileo Galilei, Leonhard Euler, Nicolaus Copernicus and Isaac Newton. They are standing under celestial planisphere with thin golden curve of ecliptic and symbols of constellations.
The mosaic was created by Russian painter Alexander Leonidovich Korolyov, he taught academical drawing (academy figure) in the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts for many years (1952-1988).
