The Albany Carousel is a brand-new menagerie style carousel that includes a spectacular variety of hand-carved animals. They range from basic horses to fantastical dragons. It is built upon a 1909 Dentzel Carousel Corporation mechanism that was donated to the project. Thus, it is a specatular example of revival, rebuilding upon an existing framework to create something wonderful and new.
In addition to the carousel itself, the site contains a carving studio where you watch people work and see new items in various steps of the process, a museum, a store, and some other spaces for group events, etc.
With the carousel, the new project built on old parts includes such fantastic animals that they are likely more elaborate than the originals, due to the passion and skill of the volunteers. Hopefully the WWP can experience the same sort of revival due to passionate involvement of its supporters.
