On the right bank of the Okhta river Swedish company Bonava builds ecological housing estate "Magnifika" (140 000 square meters till the end of 2019) in the former territory of the plant "Znamya Truda". "Ecological" means that one of the living buildings will have solar panels and wind powered generators for electric power supply.

Districts Bolshaya Okhta (right bank of the Okhta river) and Malaya Okhta (left bank) are the oldest ones in the city. Before foundation of Saint Petersburg here were situated Swedish town Nyen and Swedish fortress Nyenschantz.

The development of the territory started after Okhta Shipyard was laid on the site of the Swedish fortress Nyenschantz in 1721; a settlement of workers soon sprang up around the shipyard.

At the turn of the 19th - 20th centuries Bolshaya Okhta came to house a number of industrial enterprises, such as Okhta shipbuilding and mechanical plant, called Znamya Truda at present, Okhta Cotton Mill, now Vozrozhdenie factory, saw-mills etc.
