The plaza at Santa Fe is a venue for an extremely wide variety and number of events held throughout the year. There was a unique parade of more than 120 cars on May 22, 2016 that by its very nature was like no other. These cars were lowriders---cars with altered suspensions that ride just inches above the pavement. They are also equipped with powerful hydraulics and compressed air bags that allow extreme and rapid lifting of all four or by selection individual corners of the car. By careful control of a switchbox with multiple switches, the driver can make the front end (or any corner) jump or “hop” as high as 6 feet off the ground. Another option is to lift a corner of the car three feet off the ground and circle the plaza on only three wheels. Welded chain steering wheels, custom rims, extensive pinstriping, dazzling metal-flaked paint, dramatic murals painted on hoods and trunks, and lots of sparkling chrome complete the lowrider package.
