Be that as it may, it is generally agreed that simple machines can be combined to form more complex machines, and tools are a combination of one or more of these six (or three) simple machines.
As I look around my garage I see complex machines- the Studebaker 1956 Golden Hawk and 1963 Avanti, air compressor, lathe, drill press, and many tools made up of less complex combinations of simple machines such as the engine hoist, hydraulic press, floor jack and a myriad of hand tools. Even the pull-down stairs in the ceiling are a machine, a lever operating against a spring.
