Burg Rheinfels is the largest castle overlooking the river Rhine built in 1245 by Count Diether von Katzenelnbogen. Its lively court life made the toll castle a cultural centre on the Middle Rhine in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Since 2002, Burg Rheinfels is part of the UNESCO Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
