Round about the year 1200 the townsmen of Freiburg started to build a new parish church, the Minster of Our Lady. The building was finished in the middle of the 16th century. In the year 1827 the archdiocese of Freiburg was installed. It was then that the Minster became a cathedral – a bishops church.

The Minster was built by the townsmen of Freiburg. But as you can see in the panorama, such a building needs constant work. Thus we, the current citizens of Freiburg, are now responsible for this heritage in our span of time. And eventually our children will inherit this magnificent church and with this heritage they will take over the responsibility in their time.
