The Tartu Observatory was founded at the Imperial University of Dorpat as it was reopened in 1802. The observatory building was completed in 1810 on the Toome hill in Dorpat. The instruments were installed in 1814 by von Struve who subsequently started observations. In 1824, a 9" Fraunhofer refractor arrived, the largest achromatic telescope in the world at the time. When von Struve began assembling his Geodetic Arc in 1816, the doorstep of the observatory became its first point. UNESCO World Heritage Site number 1187.
Equipment
Taken with a Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR, Canon 15mm fisheye. Mounted on a Nodal Ninja Ultimate R1 and monopod. Stitched with PTGui.
History of one postcard...
Several years ago I received a postcard from the USA with the text in Russian on the insert inside. It was difficult to understand the meaning, as the sender evidently used Google Translate for translation. But I understood, that somebody asked me to accept his apologies. When I read the text on postcard: "Friendship grows with every pano sharing!" - it was clear that it was Pat Swovelin, who sent me this postcard!

As you know, Pat was the big fan to joke. Probably he thought that some of his jokes hurt me. Actually it was not so. But Pat decided to apologize in this original way.

Thank You, Pat! I was never offended at You, but I remained your card! Rest In Peace Pat!

You can see this card on the panorama, which I have taken for WWP: http://www.360pano.eu/show/?id=718
