The New York City Pride March parade goes down Fifth Avenue, passing the Empire State Building and ends downtown at Christopher & Greenwich Streets.
The March began in 1970 as an annual civil rights demonstration and is one of the oldest and largest gay pride parades in the world. It has evolved into being a celebration of life, family and community for people of every different gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
Sunday's June 26 event was a historical and ecstatic celebration of equality as New York State became the sixth state in the United States to legalize same-sex marriage. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had signed the marriage equality bill into law just days earlier.
