There is a simple stillness about this place and a spectacular light display between the trees and the thick vegetation. At this overgrown spot the forgotten watertower depicts the beauty and history of one of the oldest watertowers of Waterleidingmaatschappij Limburg.It was built in 1938 as a water supply for the villages Tegelen and Belfeld. The pump station and water tower had to take care of the water pressure for both villages. Inside is a water reservoir of 500 cubical meters (500,000 liters). The tower is 32 meters high and has a diameter of 8 meters.
The building has not only cultural-historical value but is also of architectonic value. It was designed by architect ir. Noorman in a style that is close to the famous Amsterdam School.
The water tower was used till 2005 and was then closed. There are plans to revive the water tower and the surroundings as a monument.
A colleague of mine who lives nearby told me that the water from there tasted delicious, a Grand Cru—in terms of water matters—so to speak.
