The Concrete House was built in 1873 by Charles Drake of the Patent Concrete Building Company and is believed to be the only surviving example of a 19th Century Concrete House in Britain. Nearly forgotten after years of neglect, the house has become derelict and a target for vandals and graffiti artists. The house is listed on the English Heritage Buildings At Risk register.

In 2009 Southwark Council and the Heritage of London Trust issued a compulsory purchase order to force the owner to relinquish the property. It is hoped that the house can now eventually be restored.
