Neufeld habour lies at the North-Sea side of Germany where
the river Elbe empties into the North-Sea. The tide rules the outgoing and incoming of all boats. During low-tide the ships fall dry - as seen here. This is a "feature" of many harbours at this coast.
The tide is the main time-regulating mean. It is the regulator of work, leisure, sport etc. Fishermen leave the harbour when tide begins to fall and come back when with its rising. So it´s like a 6-hour shift for them.
This fisherman is using the low-tide to make some repairs during the dry-fall.
Sailing boats have special retractable keels or very short ones that easily sink into the mud. But beware: you can not walk on the mud´s surface. You will sink into it up to the hips and you´ll get stuck until help arrives.
In this case a cellular phone might be a life-saver.
