Just in Time to See the Sun Set

Time. I often don't seem to have enough of this precious resource. I didn't think I was going to be able to make a submission for this WWP event. I'd been busy over the solstice weekend, and my original ideas didn't bear fruit. Time was running out.

After a long day at the office on Monday I decided to drive home along the A58 and across Blackstone Edge. I wanted to climb across the raw teeth-like rocks which mark the summit of Blackstone Edge, and capture the sun setting over the southern Pennines in Lancashire. Not so much red rose (the historical symbol of Lancashire) but red set. By the time I reached the car park at the White House Inn, at the head of the pass across this ancient route across the hills, the sun's red orb was sinking fast through semi-cloudy skies to the west. I barely made it onto the path up the hillside before the sun threatened to drop from view, so I set up tripod and camera, and quickly shot this.

It's not my favourite panorama (not even the best I've shot on this favourite section of the South Pennines) but it's the first submission I've made since upgrading my key pano kit and workflow, and it certainly chimed with the overall theme of time. Against the odds, I managed to capture the sun setting, just in time.
