The Smiley family has owned and operated the Mohonk Mountain House since it was built in 1869. (The word Mohonk means "lake in the sky".) In 1921, the Albert K. Smiley tower was completed. It is commonly referred to as Sky Top, and gives a dramatic view of the mid-Hudson valley as well as the Mohonk property.
