Thanks to the benevolence of Judge Henry Grimly Long and his daughter Catherine Long, hundreds of thousands of families are now enjoying the fun and natural beauty in Long's Park. Bequeathed to the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1900, this 71-acre park sits on the northwest corner of town at the intersection of Harrisburg Pike and Route 30. Each year the park is home to a whole host of activities including a free summer long entertainment series, a nationally acclaimed fine art and craft festival, the world's largest chicken barbecue, and a fall country music fest. Long's Park also boasts other park amenities like picnic pavilions, a petting zoo, children's playgrounds, a three-acre, spring fed lake, tennis courts and a fitness trail and snack bar. This pano is of the third night of the Entertainment Series where Shemekia Copeland and her group played the Blues to a large community group. This 13-week series is free to the community where hundreds gather to picnic, play Frisbee, and enjoy a wide variety of musical styles from pop to rock and on July the 4th even hear and see the “1812 Overture” with actual cannons blasting the finale.
