The Greensboro Arboretum, a 17-acre (6.9 hectare) garden and park that often hosts community events, was the site for a Summer Solstice Celebration on June 21.
A highlight of the celebration was a butterfly release. Monarch butterflies, carefully enclosed in protective packages, were released on cue, much to the delight of children and adults.
The event was organized by the good folks at The Goddess Effect. All goddesses, faeries, sprites and people who enjoy childlike wonder were encouraged to attend. Activities also included dance, music, yoga, fire batons and more.
Look above the treetops in the panorama and you might see some monarchs fluttering away.
