Turia River Gardens - A WMF 2006 Place

You are inside Turia river garden, the biggest green area of Valencia city. I have selected this place in the garden because his proximity to the City of Arts and Sciences, and because in the next days this place will be publicly known by V WMF 2006 (World Meeting of Families) of catholics, where 9 July the concluding Mass will be presided by the Pope Benedict XVI. About a flood of 1,5 million of people will come to this place.
Also you can see one sculpture, "The shepherd", of Lucas Karrvaz.

The Turia river bed was deviated and transformed into a garden after last devastating flooding which took place in October 1957.
Now, we have a green line of nine kilometers that cross from the west to the east this city. It offers different areas, that allows playing children, to enjoy long walks, cycling routes or practise sports in the open air. Walk underneath 17 bridges, bridges from 14th century to this moment (includes two of architect Santiago Calatrava, and one third under construction).

About V WMF (World Meeting of Families) http://www.wmf2006.org
The World Meetings of Families are an catholic initiative of John Paul II who, from 1994 onwards, convoked and presided over the first four. Will be celebrated in Valencia from 1 to 7 July. The Pope will be in Valencia on 8 and 9 July when he will be celebrating the concluding Mass.
In order to celebrate this event, a bridge has been closed and over it has been built a platform and a small tower. You can see it in this panorama, that was shoot exactly when sun was behind the tower as you can see zooming it.

Usted se encuentra dentro del jardín del río Turia, la zona verde mas grande de Valencia. He elegido este lugar del jardín por su proximidad a la Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias, y porque en los próximos días este lugar adquirirá notoriedad por la celebración del V Encuentro Mundial de las Familias, donde el día 9 de julio el acto final será presidido por el Papa Benedicto XVI. Sobre 1,5 millones de personas se espera que se congregen en este lugar. También se puede observar la escultura "El Pastor" de Lucas Karrvaz.

El cauce del río Turia fué desviado y transformado en un jardín tras la última devastadora inundación que tuvo lugar en octubre de 1957.
Ahora, la ciudad dispone de una línea verde de 9 km. que cruza de oeste a este la ciudad. Este lugar ofrece diferentes áreas, que permiten jugar a los niños, disfrutar de largos paseos, rutas en bicicleta o practicar deportes al aire libre. Pasear por debajo de 17 puentes, puentes desde el siglo XV hasta la actualidad (incluye dos puentes del arquitecto Santiago Calatrava, y un tercero en construcción).

Sobre el V EMF (Encuentro Mundial de las Familias) http://www.wmf2006.org
El Encuentro Mundial de las Familas es una iniciativa católica de Juan Pablo II, quien desde 1994 convocó y presidió las cuatro primeras. Se celabrará en Valencia del 1 al 7 de julio. El Papa estará en Valencia el día 8 y 9, en este último celebrará el acto final.
Para celebrar este evento, se ha cerrado un puente y sobre el se ha construido una plataforma y una pequeña torre en los que celebrar los actos. Puede verla en este panorama, que fué fotografiado exactamente cuando el sol se encontraba detrás de la torre, como puede verse si se realiza zoom sobre la imagen.

Es una apuesta hecha por la Generalitat Valenciana a la cultura en su más amplio sentido, junto con la ciencia, la tecnología y la naturaleza.
