We recently acquired an apartment here next to the Golf course for the fantastic protected and unspoiled view and the entertainment offered by the golfers, I made this panorama on an evening stroll because the view from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Cap-Griz-Nez.
The golf course was made on the grass plains for the horses of Napoléon Bonaparte. In August 1840, Prince Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (later Emperor Napoléon III) landed there in an aborted attempt to up rise the Boulogne garrison against King Louis-Philippe. After the failure of the attempt, the Prince was jailed in the fort of Ham (destroyed in 1917 during the First World War), from which he escaped on 25 May 1846, using the clothes of a mason named Badinguet. During the Second Empire, Victor Hugo, Napoléon III's main opponent, nicknamed him Napoléon le Petit (the Small), as opposed to Napoléon I le Grand (the Great) or Badinguet.
The small village of Wimereux is a excellent and well known place for all kinds water and wind sports like windsurf, kite surf, parasailing, sailing, model airplanes(gliders) and off course golf. It is the oldest of the area and a real Scottish-style 18-hole links course.
