Georgian Garden, Pickford's House Museum, Derby.

The Georgian Garden is located at the back of Pickford’s House, Museum of Georgian Life and Historic Costume. 41 Friar Gate in the City of Derby. The garden is a reconstruction of an 18th century formal garden, it was laid out and planted by students and staff of the Derbyshire College of Agriculture and Horticulture, with funds raised by the friends of derby Museum and Art Gallery. The Georgian garden was opened by HRH The Prince Edward on 1st June 1991. The garden you can see today has recently been replanted and a Georgian Garden Party was held on 8th July 2006 to celebrate this fact.

The metal window frames and posts you can see spread amongst the garden form part of a three-dimensional exhibit by Sculptor Gillian Brent

Pickford's House, a Grade One listed building, was built in 1770 by the architect Joseph Pickford as his family home and work premises. Other houses in Friar Gate, Derby's finest Georgian Street, were also designed by Joseph Pickford. Normally Georgian houses that are open to the general public are stately homes with grand reception rooms, and priceless furniture and paintings to match, by contrast Pickford’s House allows you to relive the life of a professional man living in this era.
