Dwr Cymru Welsh Water owns 91 reservoirs varying in size from 2 acres to 1,026 acres and manages what is probably the single largest group of stillwater trout fisheries in the UK. Pontsticill reservoir, situated in the beautiful Brecon Becons National Park, is located at 1000 feet above sea level and covers an area of 253 acres. Work on the reservoir commenced in 1913, but ceased at the outbreak of World War 1, it was completed and opened in 1927. The popular Brecon Mountain Railway travels close to the eastern perimeter of the reservoir, and the route of the Taff Trail – a long distance footpath and cycleway – passes through the forest located overlooking the western side of the reservoir. The reservoir is a popular place for visitors and for canoeing, sailing and fishing.
