In Milan, there was a custom: the taller building in the city was the statue of Madonna (on the top of Duomo di Milano), so for a lot of years the second taller building has been "Pirellone" the skyscraper in front of Central Railway Station, designed by Giò Ponti a famous Italian architect... So when some new skyscrapers, higher than the "Madonnina" were built, they got an idea: to keep the custom (let's say this way...) they put a reproduction of Madonnina on each skyscraper....
