The two furnaces in this relatively small building where enhanced by Joseph von Fraunhofer to facilitate the production of optical glass. At this place (in two more rooms on the sides of the building) he also invented mechanical instruments with a high precision to manufacture optical instruments, i.e. the largest telescope of its time, delivered to Tartu Observatory, Estonia. All in all this is a birthplace for technical instruments that changed the world for scientists all over the world.
Fraunhofer died at the age of 39 and was buried in Munich, a panorama of his grave in Munich was shot by Markus in 2004.
